The Elma Town Board set a date for the Community Development Block Grant public hearing at the Sept. 5 meeting. The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Town Hall, 1600 Bowen Road, Elma.

The New York State Community Development Block Grant Program provides financial assistance to eligible cities, towns, and villages in order to develop viable communities.

“I encourage the board to start thinking of some project ideas, and I also encourage the community to come out and recommend projects that the town might be qualified for with this Community Development Block Grant,” said Town Supervisor Dennis Powers.

In January 2018, the Town of Elma received $62,670 for the Senior Center roof and building rehabilitation from the CDBG grant.

In another matter, the Town Board approved a request by the Erie County highway superintendent to conduct a speed study on Milestrip Road.

Powers noted that speed studies have previously been done on Milestrip in 2001 and 2011. There is no exact timetable on when the latest speed study will commence.

The board also approved the following business use permits: two Speedway locations at 6640 Clinton St. and 661 Jamison Road, Bank of America at 611 Jamison Road, and Whole Health Today at 5660 Clinton St.

The next Town Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Elma Town Hall. For more information, visit www.elmanewyork.com.
