Elly E. Buchholz, high school teacher


Buchholz Buchholz Elly E. Buchholz (nee Buchta), 96, of Williamsville, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

Mrs. Buchholz was born in Hamburg, Germany, on Dec. 17, 1921. She was the only child of Robert and Elfrieda Buchta. She immigrated with her family to the U.S. at the age of 3 and settled in Medford, Long Island.

She graduated from Belport High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wagner College. She did graduate work at Columbia University and pursued a career of teaching that spanned more than 30 years.

Mrs. Buchholz taught Latin, German, French and reading at a number of New York State high schools. She did specialize in teaching English, first at Corfu High School, and then at Iroquois Central High School.

Mrs. Buchholz is survived by one child, Bonnie Ann Salt, and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd. A private family service was held at Elmlawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Kenmore.
