Cupcake bar coming to a location near you

Michael Wulf has always been interested in the culinary arts.

After graduating from Attica High School in June, Wulf, a resident of Marilla, wanted to bring the national craze of cupcake bars to the East Aurora area. Hence, Swirls Cupcakery was born. Wulf doesn’t plan to go to a culinary arts school right now, saying he wants to focus on getting the Cupcakery off the ground first.

Wulf plans to officially open Swirls on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 634 Main St., the site of the former East Aurora Wireless. His anticipated store hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Wulf said the Cupcakery will use only “the best ingredients from around the world.” It will also use local products and services whenever possible, Wulf added. For example, it will have Lockport based Lake Effect Artisanal ice cream.

Wulf wants to target all age groups, not just children. Swirls will offer a cupcake bar, as well as an espresso bar.

“If you don’t want to buy, say, a dozen cupcakes, we’ll have a variety of plain cupcakes people can choose from at the counter,” said Wulf. “You choose your own frosting, your own toppings, and it’s all made to order.”

The Cupcakery has an official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SwirlsCupcakery. The page describes each flavor of cupcake, including red velvet, honey banana and S’mores. It also asks for people’s input about what flavors they would like to see introduced.

Wulf said he is also planning to have cupcake parties and classes on cooking and decorating cupcakes, as well as several holiday themes when the time comes.

“I’m really pursuing this,” said Wulf. “I’d like to become a local restaurateur one day.”
