The Village Board of Trustees has proposed a 12.5 percent increase in the local tax rate, according to Jerry Hiller, village budget officer. Hiller admitted that residents were seeing a very large increase, but little vocal opposition was expressed to the proposed budget at Monday night’s public hearing. The board will make a final vote on April 27.

According to Aurora Town Clerk Nancy Underhill, each vote cast in the April 7 Democratic presidential primary in the Town of Aurora cost $97.60. The total payroll cost of the election was about $6,200 — for one day, and all at the town’s expense.

The Elma Town Board approved a drainage district for property earmarked for a subdivision on the north side of Bullis Road near Stolle Road but tabled rezoning of the property until State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) action is taken.

Legal action taken by four ousted Elma employees in 1990 has resulted in a $16,000 bill for the town. Last Wednesday, Town Attorney Judith Avent recommended that the board pay the $16,425 bill to the Buffalo law firm Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel for services rendered the town after the former town attorney requested an outside council.

A talking Mynah bird, valued at $300, and two green-cheeked Amazon parrots were taken from a pet store on Elm Street. The Mynah bird was found in a gas station in Buffalo, while the parrots were returned to the store sometime later.
