Iroquois swimmers’ improvement continues
Despite dropping a pair of contests this past week, Iroquois’ boys swimming team continued to improve on an individual level as the Chiefs moved two steps closer to the postseason.
Divers Justin Krzemien and Ethan Justinger were Iroquois’ only 1-2 finisher in the Chiefs’ 116-65 loss to Clarence January 24, as both of the Chief divers posted personal-best scores. Ryan Leeson (50 freestyle), Rob Coatsworth (100 butterfly) and Phil Stolarski (100 breaststroke) also won in the Clarence meet, while James Haefner took second in the 200 free with a personal best and Class B qualifying time.
Dan D’Amato also swam the 200 free in a personal-best time.
Iroquois then hosted Williamsville East Friday and came away with yet more personal best efforts. Stolarski managed the Chiefs’ lone win with his season best time in the 200 free, and he also improved his personal best times in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Stolarski and Coatsworth joined forces with D’Amato and Jim DePlato to win the 400 free relay.
Other solid efforts were recorded by Alex Weremblewski in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Josh Slawatycki in the 500 free, and Carl Salerno and James Krum in both the 50 free and relay events.
Adam Badgley and Salerno, meanwhile, competed in the ECIC “B” Championships Saturday at Maryvale. Badgley dropped 2.83 seconds from his personal-best mark in the 200 free and also swam to a personal-best time in the 100 backstroke. Salerno posted a personal-best 1:03.18 in the 100 free and also swam in the 50 free.
Iroquois hosted West Seneca East Tuesday in its final home meet of the season, but information about that contest was not available at press time. The Chiefs close out the regular season this afternoon at Williamsville South and then begin the postseason Friday by competing in the ECIC Championships at Sweet Home.
