Wales woman charged with Leandra’s Law DWI
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Wales woman with felony driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law following a Friday afternoon incident.
Lori B. Wittenrich, 32, was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending her arraignment in Town of Wales Court.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, Deputies Dave Makowski and Tom Meredith responded to a citizen complaint on Big Tree Road in Wales. The complaint said a woman who was clearly intoxicated had just left a local business via car.
Deputies obtained the license plate number of the woman’s vehicle and were able to locate it a short time later in Wittenrich’s driveway, according to the report, which noted that Wittenrich’s 4-month-old child was with her in the car.
Upon further investigation, which included field sobriety tests, deputies determined that Wittenrich was intoxicated, the report said. She submitted to a breath chemical test, which allegedly showed a blood alcohol content of .14 percent.
She was subsequently charged with the felony Leandra’s Law DWI, as well as child endangerment. Her child was turned over to the custody of family members.
