Out of the Past

Lumber A lumberyard dominated the landscape north of the Main Street business district in the late 19th century, between what is today Pine and Church streets. With its rich forests, Aurora was home to many lumber companies that benefited from the arrival of the railroad. The Zapf Lumber Company owned property in the area and maintained headquarters on the east side of Elm Street, a site that later became home to Tenney Lumber Company.
