Sheriff's deputies charge two for driving while intoxicated

Erie County Sheriff's deputies made two separate arrests in East Aurora and Elma this past week for driving while intoxicated.

First, Deputies Tim Dusza and Ryan Rogers were called to a report of a hit-and-run, property damage accident on Main Street in East Aurora at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.

The report stated the driver, later identified as Christopher Erickson, 23, of East Aurora, had fled on foot after striking a pole.

The deputies reportedly located Erickson and charged him with felony driving while intoxicated and other traffic offenses. He had reportedly been previously convicted of DWI in the Town of Elma in 2007.

Erickson reportedly did submit to a breath test, which registered 0.13 percent blood alcohol content.

Erickson was released to a third party returnable to East Aurora court at a later date.

Later, Deputy Timothy Higgins reported the arrest of 59-year-old Leroy Thompson, of Wales, for aggravated DWI at 3:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, during a traffic stop on Clinton Street in Elma.

Higgins said Thompson was speeding, traveling 72 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone.

Thompson reportedly agreed to submit to a breath test, which resulted in a reading of 0.18 percent BAC. He was charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI, speeding, failure to keep right and driving with an open alcoholic beverage.

He was released to his wife, the report said, with an arraignment set at a later date in Elma Town Court.
